An organization dedicated to supporting the mental health of new mothers in India. My name is Arundhati, and I am the founder of this NGO.
After the birth of my daughter in February 2019, I was thrust into a world of chaos. The crushing weight of depression, anxiety, and overwhelm overshadowed the joy of motherhood. I felt like I was losing myself, and no one around me understood. The silence was deafening.
I remember days when I couldn't get out of bed, hold my baby, or face the world. I felt like a failure as a mother, and a daughter. The societal pressure to be a "good mother" only worsened. I was expected to be superhuman, but I was struggling to survive.
I was not alone. I soon realized that many new mothers in India face the same struggles. We are expected to be perfect, to sacrifice our well-being for the sake of our families. We are told to "snap out of it" or "be strong" when we struggle with our mental health. We are silenced by the stigma surrounding mental illness.
But I refused to be silenced. With the help of medicine and therapy, I started my recovery journey. I learned to acknowledge my feelings, accept my vulnerabilities, and love myself again. I also realized that I had a responsibility to help other mothers like me.
That's why I started the SaJo RESILIENCE RESEARCH FOUNDATION. To break the silence around maternal mental health in India. To create a space where new mothers can share their stories, without fear of judgment. Where they can find support, resources, and understanding.
Our mission is to:
- Provide access to counselling services and therapy sessions
- Create support groups for mothers to share their experiences
- Organize awareness campaigns to normalize mental health conversations
- Collaborate with healthcare providers to integrate mental health into maternal care
We believe motherhood is a journey that should be celebrated, not suffered through in silence. We believe that mental health matters, and that new mothers deserve support and care.
Join me on this journey, as we shatter the stigma surrounding maternal mental health in India. Let's rise together, as mothers, women, and as a community that cares.
Sincerely,
Arundhati XOXO
